Bodhisattvas are Buddhas-in-becoming. There are two levels of Bodhisattvas— the first ones are ordinary human beings who aspire to Buddhahood. Their bodies are referred to as Nirmanakaya.

The second level are those who belong to the rainbow body realm, which is also known as Sambhoghakaya. Their clothing is inspired by early East Indian royalty, such as the style that a prince or princess might wear, including crowns, necklaces, arm and leg bracelets, precious jewels, and flowing silk scarves. In addition, some wear rainbow stockings.
