In daily life, Tibetans typically wear black and white, with occasional colorful accents— especially women’s handwoven aprons and jewelry of turquoise and coral. For Buddhist festivals and ceremonies, both the lay people and the lamas wear brightly colored costumes— especially in their traditional dances, which may have been influenced from the earlier Bönpo style, including costumes with animal heads.
