The sculpture of Nepal derives its characteristics from Indian sculpture before the Muslim invasion in India, and thus is similar to 11th and 12th Century Indian style. However, over time, its sculpture developed into a distinctly Nepalese style. Although most of their sculpture is metal, and cast in bronze, there are some examples of wood, particularly in architecture.
The Tibetans relied on the abilities of the Nepalese to create fine examples of Vajrayana deities, by importing artists from Nepal to Tibet, until they had learned the techniques for bronze casting sculpture for themselves.
